The task will be taken up by the Kannada Development Authority (KDA) and will facilitate weekend classes for students eager to learn. KDA has created a team of volunteers who will visit peoples apartments to check if people are keen and interested in learning Kannada. “They will also be listing out volunteers in their areas to teach the language. We are expecting the results of the survey by November-end,’’ said KDA Chairman, T S Nagabharana.

They plan to target IT hubs like Sarjapur and Whitefield, and also in Mahadevapura, Bannerghatta Road, Rajarajeshwarinagar, East Bengaluru and other places, where a large number of non-Kannadigas reside to help fuel this movement. The minimum requirement is at least five to 10 residents to show interest for them to consider that complex. Before you ask the burning question, the classes are completely, free, free, free! KDA will also pay a nominal fee to the volunteers who will be going home to home to teach. Nagabharana also recently launched the logo for “Kannada Kaayaka Varshacharane”, a year-long event to popularise Kannada in the city. Till then you can check out the e-learning portal where one can also learn Kannada online, anywhere. So what are you waiting for?
