Ever heard of plogging? It is an act of jogging while picking up litter along the way. First started in Sweden in the year 2016, the activity was organised to create awareness about plastic pollution. Plogging was soon introduced in other countries and last year saw 7000 ploggers from Bangalore clean up 33 tonnes of waste in less than 12 hours from 54 different locations. It would be an understatement to mention that the event was a huge success with its entry in the Guinness Book of World Records.

This year, The Plog Run 2019 is scheduled to happen on October 2, on the day of Gandhi Jayanthi. The organisers are taking it to the next level with a plan to attract 2.5 lakh runners. The event is being held in 50 cities including tier II and tier III cities as well. Initiatives will be taken up to clean hill stations, beaches and local neighbourhoods. The plan is to have ploggers in historical places and start initiatives to educate children in schools about single-use plastics. After the plogging event held last year, people have formed communities which go plogging every weekend. We are certainly looking forward to being a part of the next India Plog Run.
