Ask your parents or any old-timer and you’ll know how special HMT (Hindustan Machine Tools) is. Being India’s first mechanical watchmaker, the brand has achieved a vintage status, especially considering the company shut down in 2016. However, in an attempt to give you a glimpse of the popular brand’s journey over the years, HMT has recently opened the HMT Heritage Centre and Museum in Jalahalli!

Spread across two floors, the museum houses over 1,500 models of HMT watches, clocks and more, including some owned by politicians! While there are machine tools, lamps and dairy machinery as well on display, we’re looking forward to checking out the display of tiny components of different watches, armed with magnifying glasses and microscopes.

Walk around and you’ll also find a room that tells the story of how HMT watch models evolved. Or go on and gape at machine parts or working models of tractor. You can even go on a tractor ride, we hear. The museum also comes with a children’s park, a soon-to-be-opened café and a souvenir shop where you can pick up a watch or two.

Museum Timings: 10 am to 5 pm (closed on Tuesdays and public holidays)
