One-day trips from the city can often be just the break you need to refresh and unwind after a week of working from home. But then, what if you’ve covered all the popular spots? Well, that shouldn’t be an issue because we keep coming across new places or hidden gems, all thanks to our snooping around online (aka googling). Dandiganahalli Dam is one such getaway destination we happened to discover during one such googling spree. Located less than 100 km (around two hours’ drive) away from Bangalore, this reservoir-like spot is great for everything from long drives and picnics to quick family trips.

The last stretch of road leading to the dam may be slightly challenging. However, keep going and you’ll be rewarded with the view of the vast, open space, livened up by the gentle ripple of the water and lofty hills in the background. There’s a walkway adding to the scenic surroundings, perfect for some great photos. In fact, the place is a haven for photography enthusiasts, offering up pretty frames everywhere you turn. The place is best visited early in the morning, just in time to catch the sunrise or around evening.

Make sure to take along snacks and water as there aren’t shops in the area. Plus, if you’re planning a trip during the first half of the day, carry shades, hats and sunscreen; it can get quite hot. While you can plan a picnic or just lounge about by the lake, be sure not to try and wade into the water since it can be dangerous.
