The sight of water gushing down from a height of 150 feet onto a rock shaped like a tortoise greets visitors to Chelavara Falls. The presence of this rock gives the name ‘Embepare’ to these waterfalls, which translates to ‘tortoise rock’ in the local dialect. Whether you’re an adventure seeker who loves exploring the unknown or a city dweller tired of the never-ending concrete jungle, this is a great spot to head to.

Visitors can enjoy an invigorating hike up the hilltop when they reach here. The scenic views at the top lend themselves to a great photography session as well as a prime picnic location. You can also plan out a full day of fun exploration and activities as you visit the nearby tourist attractions, of which there are plenty. From local temples such as the Karada Bhagavathi Temple and Kekmani Bhagavathi Bhadrakali Temple to natural beauties like Kabbe Hills, Sunset Point, Chomakund Hill and UK Point, there is a lot to take in. You can even embark on a wildlife safari or a camping expedition in the vicinity, which is where you’re quite likely to come across travel bloggers creating content.

For all its breathtaking natural beauty, however, Chelavara Falls can be a treacherous place for the uninitiated. Due to its slippery surroundings and powerful flow of water, local authorities advise visitors to admire it from a distance, and taking a dip in the water is prohibited. So, the next time you feel like getting back in touch with nature, away from the cacophony of urban settings, a trip to Chelavara Falls will soothe your eyes and rejuvenate your soul!
