Established a decade ago, World Bamboo Day on September 18 is used worldwide to increase awareness about the evergreen plant’s benefits. And, going the extra mile to familiarise Bangaloreans with bamboo and its varied uses, the Bamboo Society of India – Karnataka Chapter is organising a daylong fair of sorts. Happening at Lalbagh’s Glass House on Wednesday, September 18, the Bamboo Cultural Fest will have all things… (yes, you guessed it)..bamboo!

While there’s bamboo plantations to check out and saplings to score, there’s more in store. Also known as ‘green gold’, bamboo and its diverse avatars will be on display at the fair. Think bamboo fabric apparel, bamboo handicrafts and more! How about a fashion show featuring bamboo fabrics? In fact, all the exhibitors will be wearing clothes made of the same material, we hear.

Make sure to try some flavourful bamboo biryani and other dishes when you’re done gaping at the exhibits. Look out for the hands-on bamboo workshop if you want something fun. Oh, and you’ll also get to experience some offbeat music by a Kerala-based music band which uses bamboo instruments. Fascinating, right? See you there!
